12 M PATROL BOAT SHIP HULL OPTIMISATION
Customer: SIMA PERÚ
Related services: CFD SIMULATION SHIPS, DESIGN
Scope of work:

  • Data collection and sea trials data analysis
  • Ship hull resistance for different speeds and load conditions
  • Appendages resistance
  • Ship hull optimization
  • Flap design
  • Power prediction with different propellers
  • Cavitation analysis

Results:
Shipyard contacted VICUSdt to improve ship performance focusing on two aspects, appendages and propeller selection.
The original hull resistance was calculated. Appendages and exhaust gases from wet exhaust were also modelled to find if there was any problem related to ship resistance or propulsion that made the ship not getting desired speed.
By means of CFD, it was found that the 10º flap produced the best results in terms of hull resistance which would allow achieving design speed.
A power prediction was conducted with different propellers that the shipyard was considering and the most efficient was identified. A cavitation analysis with those propellers was performed as well.
