Scope of work:

  • Viscous CFD ship resistance calculation
  • Nominal wake calculation
  • Self-propulsion computation
  • Hull optimization

Results:
The ‘Monteferro’ is a trawler vessel, intended to operate in Falkland Islands. In this particular type of vessels, the operational profile covers long sailing periods (from Falkland Islands to Spain), combined with pure trawling in the area. This variety of conditions determines the difficulty of the optimization, as the better solution must consider both situations.
Using the results from various alternatives of shapes in stern and bow geometries, the final design increases the speed of the vessel by 0.4 kn, compared with the original proposal, and a significant increase in bollard pull for trawling condition.
In this project, viscous CFD has been used to perform both resistance and self-propulsion calculation, obtaining, among others, the wake field. Most of the improvement in this case was due to suction reduction.
Main particulars for the Monteferro are:
L : 63.70 m
B : 12.00 m
Installed power : 1 x 2400 kW @ 750 rpm
GT: 1499[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”2238,2239,2240,2241,2242,2243″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
