LEANSHIPS PROJECT

Last 16th and 17th of June, the kick-off meeting for Leanships was held in DAMEN shipyards – Gorinchem (the Netherlands). The European Innovation Project LeanShips – Low Energy And Near To Zero Emissions Ships – is one of the first projects funded under the new European Research and Innovation Framework Program HORIZON 2020.
Within LeanShips, 46 companies from 13 different countries join their efforts with the aim to demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of energy saving and emission reduction technologies at real scale. This work is divided into work packages (WPs) focused on different types of vessels and green technologies, in order to cover a wider range.
VICUSdt will participate in this project, focused on WP6 “Efficient LNG carrier”, leaded by Navantia. Main goals in this team will be to reduce ship resistance, light ship weight to be lowered and propulsion plant / gas management to be optimized. The target is to reduce total fuel consumption by about 25 % when comparing with previous generation of Diesel Electric LNG vessels and accordingly all dependent emissions.
VICUSdt will be involved in the collection of data to feed and enhance the energy chain model, modelling of the energy chain and simulation running, using test results to calibrate the model and running new simulations and analyzing the life cycle performance of the power plant and providing operational costs estimates
